History of Steel Pier

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aq0_KKH2yfE

Steel Pier originally opened in 1898 and became known for showcasing the world's top performers. It was said that everyone who was anyone played Steel Pier. Guy Lombardo, Benny Goodman, Jimmy Dorsey, Mae West, The Three Stooges, Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra to name a few. It was said that Big Bands weren't really big until they played Steel Pier.

As air travel became more accessible and Atlantic City began a long and slow decline the glory of Steel Pier began to diminish until it closed in 1976 and in 1982 suffered a devestating fire. In 1993 Donald Trump's Taj Mahal rebuilt Steel Pier with the help of the Catanoso brothers and their expertise in the amusement business. Steel Pier was the Catanoso brothers largest project to date.

Let us hope Steel Pier holds many years of excitement and fun in its bricks and mortar for years to come.
