I C U

I C U, originally uploaded by prudencebrown121.

This photo was quite an eye opener! I decided to do a self portrait macro style, quite a challenge to focus on ones self with a macro lens. Then after capturing several shots of the same eyeball ~ my own ~ I collaged them together for an unusual effect.

If you are the slightest bit vain as I must admit I am, you might want to skip this exercise as a macro self portrait reveals every wrinkle or age spot that you never knew you had and presents themselves in living color to what turned out to be my horror!

A Sunny Blue Monday

A HOLIDAY WISH ~, originally uploaded by prudencebrown121.

On the eve of the Anniversary of Martin Luther King's Birthday, a wish for peace throughout the world and silence to the earthly rumblings in Haiti and to the beginnings of restoration.

Understanding Astrology ~ if you try it, you just may like it ...

I believe for many people the reason they are quick to laugh at or disqualify any legitimacy of Astrology is due to a lack of understanding of the subject.

Many read their horoscopes in a periodical or on the Internet, see a general synopsis of themselves which could pertain to them, their neighbor, boss, or even the dog and instantly dismiss it with no credibility. Others who are more interested in the subject, usually do some research and are more likely to explore a little further and have a reading of their chart done. For those of you who have had a chart reading, and for those of you still unfamiliar with chart readings, in order to do a chart reading, you need the exact date of your birth, time of your birth and exact location of your birth. People sometimes struggle with the time of their birth, not knowing the exact time, and although the birth chart can still be erected without the exact birth time, you will miss many of the particulars which make the chart reading solely unique to you. So if at all possible, provide the birth time (many times you can just check your birth certificate).

In this post we are going to deal with some of the elementary steps of the basics of Astrology.

With my Mercury, one of the primary planets governing one's thoughts in the mentally and physically exploring sign of Sagittarius, I see every subject from every side, so I realise there are hundreds of postings, books through the centuries and people over the years who have written and talked on this exact subject and I think to myself why am I trying to explain this, however Astrology still remains a topic shrouded by disbelievers, mystery and a lack of understanding and although there are many subjects quite the same, I believe on this particular subject, if I can create more interest by just a little more understanding I will have accomplished my mission. You see as a Capricorn Sun sign, with a Moon in Scorpio, when I get an idea in my head, I am determined to succeed in accomplishing whatever task I set about. The Capricorn Sun drives me and the Scorpio Moon .... well for the good or bad of the reader that moon sign makes me more tenacious than any starving dog with a bone you have ever encountered. The Scorpio Moon with its good, its bad and its ugly if nothing else is determined and never tiring!

Now the planetary placements I have written about above in connection with myself ~ the Sun, the Moon and Mercury can all be found in every ones chart, but all of those planets live in one of ten houses in your chart and without the exact birth time it is difficult to determine exactly which of the ten houses your planets will live. Also just like the relationships that develop among your family members in the different houses of your families, so too will the planets of your charts, living in their houses develop relationships with each other and these relationships will be called aspects.

So despite the fact it is possible to write forever, I believe it is time to end this post for today; for although the Scorpio Moon gives me the tenacity to undertake and explain this, the Mercury in Sagittarius is playful and wants to move on to something new and my Ascendant or Rising Sign in Cancer, the sign most closely associated with eating is screaming for a bowl of ice cream, or perhaps a glass of wine and a few crackers with cheese.

So Ciao for now; and look for more Astrological updates in the future.

Accidental Suction ~ ASTROLOGY

Accidental Suction, originally uploaded by prudencebrown121.

Whether you find yourself pulled in ~ or not ...... Astrology has been around for centuries and will most likely continue to warrant an ever changing interest and challenging reputation for centuries to come.

Look for more on the subject in this ever changing and growing blog The New Life in the weeks and months to come .....

Sometimes it's better when you just come home!

Sometimes it's better when you just come home; whether you come home to a house, come home to a job, come home to a relationship, or for the purpose of this post I just finally had to come home to this blog.

As the New Year arrives, we all know how it is, we make all sorts of resolutions and promises to ourselves and if you are like me, you secretly wonder in the back of your mind if you will be able to live up to the expectations you set for yourself.

When I was unemployed this summer I became determined to learn more about photography, more about writing, more about Photoshop and more about networking. So from Twitter to Facebook, from Facebook to Stumble Upon, from Stumble Upon to My Space, My Space to any site that would have me and on and on and on I went. As I ventured from site to site, happily joining and securing my password as I travelled cyberspace, I was thrilled and excited as I linked all of the sites to one happy and friendly blog and that of course would be this one, The New Life. Then one day I discovered and joined Squidoo. Squidoo they tell me is an intricate lens eye view into any subject that you feel you are, or are close to an expert in.

So you ask, what does she think she is an expert on? Well ~ Squidoo tells me I can be an expert in almost anything and although I am not quite sure I believe the folks at Squidoo, I do feel confident and certain in my knowledge of Astrology. I am more confident and certain in my knowledge of Astrology than I am creating a Squidoo lens on the subject of Astrology; therefore I was forced after trial and error and a lack of finding an acceptable URl to abandon the Squidoo Lens idea and return to post said knowledge of Astrology on The New Life blog.

Astrology not to be confused with Astronomy, if not for the fact that Astronomy is a science, but for unfortunately a far more disappointing reason that Astrology has not through history and til this day received the esteemed recognition that Astronomy has enjoyed for centuries. Having said that however, let us also say that Astrology despite being debunked by several has also enjoyed interest and been revered by many for centuries.

For the most part many read their horoscopes with a laugh, a wish, a belief, a disbelief and for the majority of us having a somewhat casual, lackadaisical attitude toward the position the sun was travelling on the day we were born.

For years friends, family and assorted other individuals along life's path have mentioned I should delve more intimately in to the analysis of the birth chart. So with this blog The New Life it is my future intent to try to explain the elemental aspects of Astrology. I figure in the beginning we will start small and see where we go from there. It is my intent to erect charts and explain transits and answer any questions as we go.

Look for more to come on the subject of Astrology in the future weeks and months to come. Feel free to post any questions no matter how simple or complex and remember there should be no fear in a lack of understanding or confusion only a fear of not trying.

2010! Let the Good Times Begin!

2009 has ended and now it is time to make the New Year's resolutions and see if and how long we can keep them.

When I was unemployed I vowed to post every day to the blog and for the most part I was successful in my literary postings. Once employment became a regular part of my routine however, it seems I have been forced to abandon the daily postings in exchange for a few more hours of sleep.

So now that 2010 is upon us I am making a new resolution which is not to post everyday, but to post as often as possible.

As most of you know by now this blog does not necessarily have a central focus, but is more of a potpourri of photography, fiction, recipes and as a new addition in the new year I hope to delve in to the realm of Astrology and perhaps to do some astrological readings for anyone who may be interested.

For the purpose of this post however, I am starting the New Year with a recipe.

With the cold and "wintryness" of January, the holidays over and everyone zippering their wallets and mouths, around the middle of the month, when the January blues are singing their song, you may find yourself doing the cabin fever dance. When this happens ~ find your way to the grocery store, scramble through the kitchen cabinets and pull from the blog the following extremely easy recipe; although it may be a few more calories than you're willing to count you will not be sorry you did!

Pineapple Bread ~

What you need -

1/4 lb butter
1 cup sugar
4 eggs
1 #2 can crushed pineapple minus 2 tablespoons from can
6 cubed slices white bread

What you do -

Cream butter and sugar; add eggs and then beat with a mixer; add pineapple and mix with a large spoon. Stir in bread cubes. Bake in casserole uncovered at 350 degrees for 3/4 to 1 hour.

Serves 6 to 8

Bonn Appetite!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, 2010

HAPPY NEW YEAR, 2010, originally uploaded by prudencebrown121.

I wanted to post two final photos for 2009, part of my New York series; I'm a little late, but better late than never as the old saying goes.

This is a night shot of what was once the Radiator Building built in NYC in 1924. It is a landmark skyscraper located at 40 West 40th Street in Midtown Manhattan. It is a historic landmark which was originally build for the American Radiator and Standard Sanitary Company. The building has since been sold and it is now known as the Bryant Park Hotel.
